Plexamp headless linus9/19/2023 Media software company Plex has always dabbled in side projects, and in 2017 they wanted to bring their passion projects more exposure when they launched Plex Labs, their in-house incubator. Plexamp also runs on macOS, Windows, Linus and Headless. The Plexamp app was well received upon its debut, earning a 4.8 star rating out of 5 on the App Store and a 4.7 rating on Google Play. The subscription includes a variety of features to enhance the Plex service itself, including things like DVR recording of live TV, downloads, the ability to skip credits and intros of movies and TV shows, premium music features, and other advanced and technical features. To access these features, users must pay for a Plex Pass subscription at $4.99/month. These include the AI-powered Sonic Sage playlist builder, as well as Downloads and artist and album mix builders. However, with the move to make the app free, Plexamp will keep its advanced features exclusive to its paying subscribers. In addition to Library Radio, a music rediscovery feature, Plexamp allows users to create playlists that match their mood of the moment: “brooding, cathartic, confident, intense, playful, poignant, swaggering, and wistful,” says the company.Īnother feature, Decade Radio, allows users to play tracks from a specific decade, while Time Travel Radio lets you discover older tracks from your library. The app also offers gapless playback, volume equalization and smooth transitions between tracks, among other things. However, after expanding from desktop to mobile, Plexamp was only available to subscribers.Īccording to Plex, the Plexamp app will now be free and will allow users to play tracks from their own library or the music streaming service TIDAL with high-quality audio and support for lossless audio. First launched in 2017 as a Plex-owned twist on the classic Winamp media player app, the project offers visualizations to accompany your music, tools for programming mixes, and more recently a ChatGPT-based “Sonic Sage” feature that creates unique playlists created by users’ music libraries. Plexamp, the music player originally developed by media company Plex’s Labs division, is now free, the company announced today.
